The hubs and I attended Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol at the HCT two nights ago to celebrate this Christmas Season. It was enjoyable. I much prefer the movie A Muppets Christmas Carol to this one (while this one had more literary correctness I feel the Muppets shared the feeling of the story better). But I believe my favorite part of the evening was reading the behind the scenes story of Charles Dickens and Christmas in general that was within the program. While there are many reasons to love the Christmas Season I think I’ve found mine. My reason for loving the Christmas Season is found within A Christmas Carol, there is no other time of year that almost every and all persons act with such generosity towards others – none. I find it sad that we need a specific time of year (that was initially made and instituted from pagan rituals) to behave better towards other human beings who share our existence on this tiny planet. However, I’ve come to the conclusion that even though we as humans do need a special specific time and reason to remember those less fortunate than us, to remember how to treat other people, to remember the past, present, and future and how that affects us and others, at least we have one.
Next year my goal is to read A Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve as well as find a book of some sort on the history of Christmas and read more into that.
So take this time to be a little bit kinder and put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Everyone has their own problems and their own insecurities. Don’t add to them. And don’t judge them.
Just love them.
